Author: Aluminum Surface TechnologiesNeed TUFRAM Coating on Aluminum 2005. I am part of a small prototyping shop in San Antonio,Texas and have a need to start the Tufram procedure.Does anyone have any info on this product as far as where to purchase the products and procedure needed to apply this product during anodizing? Any Help would be appreciated.
TUFRAM® is a collective name for a family of coatings in which an aluminum surface is converted in to aluminum oxide Al2O3.H2O. During this process the aluminum crystals grow out to a porous layer that remains hygroscopic for a short time and therefore has optimum adhesive properties. The water molecules of the newly formed ceramic oxide
SYMCOAT HCT (Mil-A-63576 A) is a multi-step process that makes aluminum surfaces as hard as steel. This process combines the hardness of aluminum oxide with complementary properties of selected fluorocarbons to provide wear and corrosion resistance, hardness, and permanent lubricity at previously unobtainable levels.
A NEDOX coating on the steel portions and a TUFRAM® coating on the aluminum portions solved galvanic corrosion and erosion prob-lems encountered by Johnson Controls on their combination steel/aluminum molds used to injection blow-mold PET bottles. The coatings also prevented corrosion created by condensation on both metals. Aug 09, 2000· Is Tufram the coating that was on the original aluminum Cricket (it's kind of line an annodized finish on the aluminum)? If that's the case, I too have found that it's pretty scratch resistant. It might also be the finish included on the aluminum handled "R" knife which I just purchased.
The roundness demand is in the range of 2 micron with high demands on surface finish. We have produced these parts for many years with the idea that it is the Aluminum quality (the amount of chromium) that defines the end result of the Tufram coating quality. We have therefore specified the chromium proportion to be less than 0.03%.
